About the Event

Morel Workshops with Mike Snyder

Join mushroom expert Mike Snyder for a hands-on Morel Hunting Workshop during prime morel season! This 2-hour, outdoor workshop is perfect for anyone curious about these elusive wild mushrooms. You’ll learn:

  • How to identify morel host trees and recognize ideal habitat

  • Seasonal hunting techniques and tips for judging where to search

  • Practical knowledge from an experienced forager with opportunities to ask questions in the field

Please note: This workshop takes place on protected Arkansas Natural Heritage property, so picking mushrooms is not allowed. The event will occur rain or shine, so bring wet-weather gear if needed.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced forager, this is your chance to explore morel habitats, gain field skills, and enjoy the beauty of spring in the Ozarks.

About Mike Snyder

Mike Snyder is a myco-educator, citizen scientist, and experienced forager from south-central Missouri. He's a passionate teacher of all things mycological and stays busy introducing communities to ways to improve their lives with mushrooms. What started 15 years ago as a hobby soon became a passion, and for the past several years he's been offering mushroom walks, classes and cultivation workshops, and speaking about fungi to groups large and small through his family-owned business WildWise Botanicals. Mike is also a dedicated Board member of the Missouri Mycological Society, heading up multiple committees, spearheading major research initiatives that are helping to advance the scientific understanding of Ozarks mushrooms, and administering the state's only approved wild mushroom certification courses for the club. Mike has grown into one of the Midwest's most trusted educators in the field and is soon to be a published author with the upcoming Foraging Mushrooms of the Ozarks, a Falcon Guide.
